The best pizza in Amsterdam: 5 x authentic Italian

Rate this post

Good food is as much a part of a city trip as a beer in your hand is to public viewing. There are all kinds of local specialities to try, the tastiest snacks to get hold of and the best markets to explore. In Amsterdam, you have an almost endless choice of the tastiest delicacies: from bitterballen to Indonesian rijsttafel. Although we urge you to try the local snacks, we also know that sometimes you just want one thing: a good old, authentic pizza.

You’ve also come to the right place in Amsterdam. Did you know that 1.5% of Amsterdam’s population is Italian? The perfect place to eat authentic and creative pizza…

Of course, this immediately brings up the classic debate: Neapolitan pizza with a thick crust, or the thin pizza Romana – which is the best pizza in Amsterdam? No matter which you prefer, you’ll find it in Amsterdam! Incidentally, you will realise that a good pizza here is a few euros more expensive than at the Italian restaurant around the corner here in Germany. But it’s definitely worth it! Leave the supposedly cheap tourist offers to one side and stop off at one of the authentic Italian pizzerias instead.

Here are our 5 addresses for the best pizza in Amsterdam…

Loulou Pizza Bar

At LouLou’s you will not only find incredibly tasty Neapolitan pizza, but also one of the most beautiful ambiences in the entire city! Located just south-east of the city centre, LouLou’s is right on the banks of the Amstel. It’s the perfect place to enjoy the sunshine, sip a sparkling Aperol and have a good time on the terrace.

Tip: On the Amstel you can not only watch countless beautiful birds, but also go stand-up paddling or take a nice boat trip! You can take a guided boat trip or hire your own boat – perfect! 🙂

Where: Loulou’s is right on the Amstel, adjacent to the trendy neighbourhood of de Pijp, Weesperzijde 42A.

Vagabond

You’ll find the cosy Vagabond pizza bakery not far from our Artis Zoo and the green botanical garden. It is therefore ideal for a little refreshment after your lunch programme.

Vagabond specialises in authentic Italian pizza and was of course founded by two passionate Italians and is now run with a lot of love. The name says it all and suggests the connection to Amsterdam. Here, the love of travelling, discovering other worlds and cultures and openness towards other people is truly celebrated. After all, what brings people together more than a really tasty pizza, a cold beer and a chat with people from all over the world?

Where: Vagabond is located in the east of the city, Czaar Peterstraat 106.

La Perla

Pizzeria La Perla has two major advantages: it is located in the heart of the Jordaan neighbourhood (so super central) and you can get fresh pizza from 12.00 noon! Just like many of the other authentic Italian pizzerias here, La Perla relies on quality products straight from home. Anyone of us who has ever been to Italy knows that the tomatoes there are simply sweeter, the lemonade fresher and the pizza tastes even better. So the best way to create this feeling far away from home is to bring a piece of home to Amsterdam. You can taste the result on the spot: heavenly!

Pazzi

Pazzi also offers authentic flair and authentic products. Typically cosy, there are only a few tables here and a long table in the entrance area where strangers can become friends. Pazzi offers genuine Italian classics with the utmost dedication to the product. Our favourites are the Tartufo Pizza and the Quattro Formaggi – it tastes just like in Italy and is guaranteed to give you a great holiday feeling! Tip: The spritz here is also great, be sure to order it with your pizza 😉.

Where: You can also find Pizza Pazzi in the Jordaan neighbourhood, Eerste Looiersdwarsstraat 4.

YamYam

At first, Yamyam sounds like a hip, new, perhaps less Italian concept. However, this impression couldn’t be further from the reality! In fact, YamYam is one of the oldest and most appreciated pizzerias in Amsterdam. According to our renowned newspaper “Het Parool”, it may even have the best pizza in Amsterdam! The Roman, crispy thin pizza, which, like many others, was born out of love. On the one hand, the love between an Amsterdam woman and an Italian, and on the other, the love of pizza in general. What could be better? ❤️

Where: YamYam is located in Amsterdam West, Frederik Hendrikstraat 88-90.
