Red Light District Tour

Due to the tourism regulations of the city of Amsterdam, it is prohibited to operate tours right in front of the red windows of the sex workers. Don’t worry – this tour is still guiding you through the heart of the red light district:

Childrens prices

Ages 0 to 3: Free participation (with a ticket)

Ages 4 to 12: 14,00 €

Important: Children always need their own ticket for the tour! Please email us or give us a call if you would like to register your children for the tour at a discounted price or free of charge.

All red light district tours contain the same information, however the individual routes can slightly vary.

Option 1:

Public Red Light District Tour

included highlights: dancing houses, Chinatown, outside coffeeshop stop

max. 15 participants
The focus is on the red light district, but the tour does not go directly past the sex workers’ windows
After the tour, you can explore the small alleyways with the windows of the sex workers on your own, with all your newly acquired tour knowledge.

Private Red Light District Tour

Highlights: dancing houses, outside coffeeshop, Chinatown

Starting time as desired; Duration: 1,5 hours
The focus is on the red light district, but the tour does not go directly past the sex workers’ windows
After the tour, you can explore the small alleyways with the windows of the sex workers on your own, with all your newly acquired tour knowledge
Keep to yourselves; we are happy to incorporate your wishes
If you are a party of more than 15, we will divide your group, and you will walk in parallel to each other

What to expect on your Red Light District Tour?

No other area of Amsterdam is as frequented by tourists as the red light district, and yet very few people are aware of the structures and abysses that can be found behind the scenes of Europe’s sex paradise.

From the outside, it appears to be an Eldorado for fun-seekers. But behind the scenes, a different picture emerges. On your guided tour, you will find out where the sex workers come from, how the negotiations between clients and sex workers take place, what income and expenses the women incur, how the renting of rooms is regulated and how the women protect themselves from unwanted assaults. You will also learn about the history of the district and how closely it is intertwined with Amsterdam as a whole. Lastly, you will learn more about coffeeshop culture in Amsterdam and the role the coffeeshops play in the future of our red light district.

The red-light district also has numerous absurdities in store that are good for a good laugh. Find out on tour!

Meeting point

We are meeting on the steps of the national monument (a white obelisk) at Dam square. You can recognise your guide by the red name tag he/she/they is wearing.

Very nice, informative guided tours through Amsterdam In total we had booked 4 tours with Incredible Amsterdam. We particularly enjoyed the bike and food tour with Nina, but the red light tour, the Jordaan tour and the canal tour were also very nice. All the guides are very knowledgeable and tell you a lot about life in Amsterdam. We really enjoyed our time with Incredible Amsterdam.

Fantastic tour of the Red Light District - even better than a museum! Lea was an absolutely wonderful guide! She was very knowledgeable, friendly/approachable, and made our group feel comfortable about asking questions on this topic. She cultivated a professional and fun tour and was thorough at each site with her explanations and her questions made us think more deeply about what we saw. We definitely felt that we learned more from taking her tour than going to a museum to read about the red light district. She is a fantastic and informative storyteller. One thing I do need to mention is that we were running late for this tour and most tour guides would have (understandably) gone ahead without us. Lea proactively reached out to us by calling us on WhatsApp (being international tourists, my phone could not receive local calls, but WhatsApp uses the internet so she got through!) and she was incredibly nice as she checked in to see if we were still coming and even kept in touch with us to give the next location to meet since we were late. At the end of tour, Lea stayed longer to not only answer the group's questions, but took an additional 10-15 mins to explain what we had missed at the beginning and even walked us to the first site that we missed. That is going above and beyond what we ever expected from a tour guide, considering it was our fault we were late!! We were very appreciative of Lea's generosity and time in doing this despite having a personal deadline later that night to meet!! <3 We would highly recommend taking this tour with Lea! When my partner and I rated the activities we did for our Amsterdam trip, this tour was at the top of the highlights because we learned so much about the red district and it was because Lea did a fantastic job of leading us through the information when visiting the sites and did a great job connecting with the group!

Great tours in a magical city! We had 3 private tours as a family (city tour Centrum, Rjiksmuseum and Red Light District) with the lovely guides Marina and Noemi ☺️ The two of them were well prepared, were able to answer all our questions competently and above all: it was really fun to be on the road with them! Good information, worth the price The tour was great. Our tour guide Martha answered all our questions, which makes the tour so much more interesting. Knowing the history behind the red light district is important in understanding the decisions to legalize prostitution. We didn’t see anyone in the world famous windows, but we were fine with that.
